The conference proceedings booklet is now available. [Download]

Our 2008 conference was held on 5-7 November in Oslo, in collaboration with the World Health Organization. The conference was a great success, bringing together researchers, professionals and family members from all continents. ISA wishes to thank all of the attendees, presenters, and organizers for making this event an exciting and worthwhile experience for all involved. Congratulations also to ISA conference chair Frederick Froen and his team for all their hard work prior to, and during, the conference. ISA thanks the many sponsor organisations, without which the conference would not have been possible.

2010 Conference

The 2010 ISA conference will be held jointly with the International Society for the Study and Prevention of Infant Deaths (ISPID) in Australia in October 2010.

The 2010 Conference will focus on Connecting for life in preventing stillbirth and infant death and ensuring optimal bereavement support for families. The Conference themes will encompass the problems faced by the diverse populations of the Australasian region. The Conference Committee will announce the “east coast” conference destination and the main conference themes at the Oslo Conference in November. Hosting of the conference will be shared across The Australia and New Zealand Stillbirth Alliance and member organisations: Bonnie Babes Foundation Inc., SANDS Australia and New Zealand, Stillbirth Foundation Australia and SIDS and Kids (SIDS and Kids are also hosting the ISPID component).

The 2010 Conference Committee welcomes you to Connect for life with friends and colleagues (new and old) “downunder” in 2010.  We promise great Aussie hospitality, warm weather, Koala cuddling and a range of parochial culinary delights and an opportunity to build on the work underway in making a difference to the global challenge of stillbirth and infant death.

Have your say in shaping 2010!

Understanding the Basics of Stillbirth

ISA 2007 Conference minutes and reports

New National Sudden Infant Death Resource Center (NSIDRC)

The National Center for Education in Maternal and Child Health at Georgetown University is pleased to announce the new National Sudden Infant Death Resource Center (NSIDRC), funded by a 3-year cooperative agreement with the federal Maternal and Child Health Bureau (MCHB). NSIDRC is co-located with the Maternal and Child Health Library and draws on the library's extensive resource capacities and public health perspective.

The new NSIDRC will continue the work of the National SIDS/Infant Death Resource Center, serving as a central source of information on sudden infant death (including sudden infant death syndrome, miscarriage, stillbirth and other sudden infant deaths), on bereavement, and on promoting healthy outcomes for infants from the prenatal period through the first year of life and beyond. A new Web site (http://www.sidscenter.org) provides access to this information in an easy-to-use format. Searchable databases and special issues of the MCH Alert with a focus on infant mortality will be available soon.

NSIDRC is one of a consortium of four centers funded by MCHB, all with the goal of reducing sudden infant deaths and assisting bereaved families, and each with a unique purpose and core responsibilities. Theother centers are the National SIDS and Infant Death Program Support Center at First Candle, the National SIDS and Infant Death Project IMPACT at the Association of SIDS and Infant Mortality Programs, and the Sudden Infant Death Syndrome and Other Infant Death Project at the National Center for Cultural Competence.

NSIDRC is accessible at http://www.sidscenter.org, by calling (866) 866-7437 (toll-free) or (202) 687-7466 (local), or by e-mailing info@sidscenter.org.

Sciencentral News: "Preventing Stillbirths"

"It's a subject people don't talk about. But as one grieving mother was shocked to discover, stillbirth is ten times more common than sudden infant death syndrome, and as many as two-thirds of stillbirths are unexplained. But one researcher thinks many of these tragedies could be prevented with increased vigilance in late pregnancy."
